Montevallo dominates Albany State in tennis match

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team matched its 2011 season win total just six matches into the season in dominating fashion in a 9-0 win over Albany State University in a non-conference match Feb. 22.
Freshman Niki Polcerova extended her unbeaten streak to six matches as she won her No. 1 singles’ match 6-0, 6-1 and also teamed up with senior Helene Nordgreen to take the No. 1 doubles’ match 8-1.
Nordgreen also won the No. 2 singles’ match 6-0, 6-0. Junior Lauren Blair and junior Amy McGucken took the No. 2 doubles’ match 8-1. Blair went on to win the No. 3 singles’ match 6-0, 6-0. McGucken had the toughest singles’ match of the day in her No. 4 singles’ match as she pulled out a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Freshman Meagan Stevens, a Hope Christian School graduate, and freshman Kiana Banks teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles’ match 9-7. Stevens took home the No. 5 singles’ match 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Yulia Shvetsova won the No. 6 singles’ match 6-2, 6-1.
The Falcons will look to continue to roll this Sunday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. as they host perennial powerhouse Armstrong Atlantic State University.
