Simmons’ no-hitter leads Lions past Jags

The game was a 180-degree turnaround from the opening game of the Jay D. Kynerd Memorial tournament, which was named after the son of Briarwood Christian Superintendent Byrle Kynerd, a former baseball player for the Lions who passed away in 2004.
Spain Park defeated Briarwood Christian 14-2 behind a combined two-hitter by Hunter Hall and Max Goldsmith. The Jaguars were missing the cornerstone of their lineup, shortstop Mikey White, who sat out with an injury during the tournament championship game.
Tanner Cunningham led the Lions (3-1) at the plate after going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Ben Craft went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Jake Bracewell finished 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Brayden Housel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Cole Pearson finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a three-run double and a run scored. Will Dyson and Carter Tyra each went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Simmons earned the win after striking out five batters and hitting two batters without allowing a hit in five innings. Simmons also finishd 1-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs.
