Will McDonald was the lone Spain Park runner to reach second base after getting hit by a pitch and advancing on a passed ball in the fifth inning.

Trey Hawker took the loss for the Jaguars (3-1) after giving up nine runs on 10 hits with one strikeout in three innings.

Briarwood Christian took advantage of two big innings in the victory.

Adams’ double on the heels of a single by Cunningham drove in three runs in a four-run second inning. Housel and Cunningham added back-to-back RBI singles to cap a five-run third inning for the Lions.

Simmons and Bracewell each singled and later scored in a two-run fourth inning for the Lions.

Renfroe said the tournament, which also included Walker and West Point, was a good test early in the season for the Lions.

“We were excited about facing all of the teams,” Renfroe said. “They’re really good. They’re going to make you work.”
