COLUMBIANA – Cowboys and cowgirls gathered at the Shelby County Expo Center for Shelby County’s 25th Annual Cattleman’s Rodeo Feb. 24.

The live rodeo included chuck wagon races, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and bareback riding events.

The Cattleman’s Rodeo began in 1989, and has become an annual tradition many residents look forward to each year.

Rhonda Hanner, a Shelby resident, has been bringing her family to the rodeo for more than 20 years.

“It’s been a family tradition for us,” Hanner said. “I love the bull riding. It’s my favorite.”

Three generations of the Hanner family enjoy the rodeo today, including Hanner’s daughter Melissa Nolen and granddaughter, Emalee Nolen, 6.

“I love the barrel racing,” Emalee Nolen added.

As the Hanner family and many others watched from the stands, competitor Jacob Dagenhart prepared to compete the night’s roping events.

Dagenhart has been attending rodeos as long as he can remember. He trains four days a week all year.
