Rebels claim tournament title

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team swept Bessemer Academy in a doubleheader Feb. 25 to claim its tournament championship.

Jake Carter led the Rebels with two hits and three RBIs in the opening game.

Allen Logan finished with two hits and two RBIs. Tyler Hickman added two hits and drove in one run. Steven Cryer finished with one hit.

Logan earned the win on the mound after giving up just one hit with five strikeouts in five innings. Hunter Winslett and Myles Varner pitched a inning each without allowing a run.

Winslett led the Rebels at the plate in the second game with one hit and three RBIs.

Logan, Cryer and Carter finished with one hit and drove in one run each. McMillan added two hits. Varner finished with one hit and drove in one run. Cody Wood also drove in a run.

Carter earned the win on the mound after giving up just one hit with six strikeouts in four innings.

Austin Tatum struck out three batters and didn’t allow a hit in two innings in relief. Christian Jantz allowed one unearned run on two hits in one inning in relief.

Logan was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Carter, Wood and McMillan were each named to the all-tournament team.
