Falcons finish 13th in Mardi Gras Invitational

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team finished 13th at the University of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Invitational tournament Feb. 28 in New Orleans, La.

The Falcons were led by junior Andrew Lowry, who shot a three-round score of 227, good for 31st overall. The Falcons finished ahead of Centenary College and host, University of New Orleans. The only other Peach Belt Conference school in attendance was Georgia Southwestern, which finished eighth overall.

Senior Ruwaldt Viljoen shot a 233, good for 45th overall. His best round was the second as he shot a 74. Junior Mariano Lepori shot a 239, good for 58th overall.

Sophomore Joe Haupt came in fourth for the Falcons and 63rd overall with a score of 243. The final Montevallo player was freshman Andres Morales, who finished 69th overall with a score of 249.

Lowry and Viljoen tied for the lowest rounds of the tournament for the Falcons as Lowery shot a pair of 74s and Viljoen had one.

The Falcons will return to action March 12-13 at the North Georgia Invitational in Dahlonega, Ga.
