COLUMBIANA-Shelby County correction officer Twinica Newton resigned from her position of seven years on Feb. 15, after being questioned about her conduct.

In February, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from an inmate alleging misconduct of Newton.  After an investigation, correctional administrators and sheriff’s investigators determined Newton had violated established policies and procedures.

The sheriff’s office has completed its internal investigation and Sheriff Curry formally requested that the Alabama Bureau of Investigation review this matter for possible criminal violations.  ABI’s  investigation is currently on-going.
