Vincent journey ends short of title

Moon and Williams led the Yellow Jackets (27-7) with 16 points each in the final game of the season. Williams, who finished 6-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, also registered three assists and three steals.

Moon and Williams were each named to the Class 2A all-tournament team.

Demauntey Johnson added three points and three steals. Anterio Rogers contributed two points, four assists and three steals to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

Jamal McCrimon chipped in one point and four boards. Marquis Torbert and Michael Gilham finished with one rebound each off the bench.

Vincent got off to a quick start in the championship game. The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 8-0 lead following a 3-pointer by Williams, a three-point play by Moon and a layup by Williams in the first three minutes of the game.

Barbour County (34-0) cut the Yellow Jackets’ lead to three points late in the opening quarter before a layup by Johnson with 22 seconds remaining in the opening period gave Vincent a 16-11 heading into the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter with another 8-0 run, which included a layup by Moon, a 3-pointer by Williams and a 3-pointer by Moon, in the first two minutes of the period to extend their lead to 24-11.

Barbour County slowly chipped away at the Vincent lead late in the second quarter, cutting the advantage to 27-25 heading into the locker room at halftime.

“I thought in the first half we played really well,” Hadder said. “We shot the ball really well.”
