Spain Park trio captures titles

A trio of Spain Park High School track and field athletes captured individual titles March 3 at the season-opening Hoover Optmist Relay event.

Joseph Williams of Spain Park claimed the boys’ shot put relay event with his toss of 58 feet, 9.75 inches in the event.

Simone Charley of Spain Park won the girls’ triple jump relay event with her leap of 36 feet, 9.5 inches. Jasmine Moore of Spain Park captured the girls’ shot put relay event title with her toss of 37 feet, 7.5 inches.

The Thompson High School boys’ track and field team led Shelby County squads after the Warriors finished fourth in the boys’ team standings.

Oak Mountain finished ninth. Spain Park came in 11th overall, while Westminster finished 12th. Pelham finished one spot behind in 13th in the boys’ team standings.

The Pelham High School girls’ track and field team led Shelby County teams in the event as the Panthers finished fourth in the girls’ team standings.

Thompson came in seventh overall. Oak Mountain finished 12th, while Westminster came in 14th. Spain Park finished 16th in the girls’ team standings.
