Hand grenade, explosives recovered

A hand grenade and two other explosive devices were recovered from an abandoned storage facility off Old Highway 280 at 1:30 p.m. March 6.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a business in the 12000 block of Old Highway 280 after an employee reported locating the explosives in an abandoned storage facility, according to a press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. After deputies secured the area, Hoover Police Department’s bomb squad (EOD) responded and took possession of all three explosives. The area has been re-opened to the public.

Sheriff Curry would like to thank the Hoover police officers who responded to help make this dangerous situation safe.

An investigation into the history of the explosives is ongoing at this time.
