Panthers top Northridge in soccer match

The Pelham High School boys’ soccer team defeated Northridge 5-2 in high school soccer action March 6.

Miguel Quijada started the scoring off for the Panthers with a free kick outside of the box 17:20 into the first half.

Early in the second half, Alexis Diaz headed in a corner kick from Quijada.  Quijada found Diaz again for a goal 9:07 into the second half.

Quijada then earned his third assist with a pass to Andres Melendez, who scored at the 12:38 mark in the second half to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead.

Northridge converted a free kick at the 15:19 mark before Diaz finished the night with a hat trick with a goal assisted from Troup Graham with 4:07 left in the game.

Pelham improved to 7-3 overall and sits at the top of Class 6A, Section 6 with a 3-0 record.

GIRLS

The Pelham High School girls’ soccer team defeated Northridge 10-0 in high school soccer action March 6.

Cassie Shiflett led the Panthers (5-1-2) with four goals and two assists in the victory.

Natalie Delgadillo added three goals and three assists. Natalia Alcaino scored two goals in the win.

Mara DeLuca contributed one goal and one assist. Elizabeth Deyton recorded two assists in the victory.

Pelham goalkeeper Selina Delgadillo posted three saves as she recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
