FROM STAFF REPORTS

University of Montevallo senior guard D.J. Rivera has been named Daktronics first team All-Region.

Rivera leads the Peach Belt Conference in steals with 2.5 per game and is second in scoring with 21.7 points per game.

Rivera currently ranks in the top 10 in scoring in the NCAA Division II ranks and top 10 in steals. He has scored in double figures in all but one game in a Montevallo uniform and has 19 20-plus point performances this season.

Rivera recently broke the Falcons’ NCAA record for free throws made in a game with 14, and free throw percentage in a game, going 14-of-14 from the charity stripe. He is nearing the Montevallo single- season scoring record as he sits at 630 points and needs just 64 more to tie the record set by Greg Brown during the 2006-2007 season.

Rivera will now go to the All-American ballot, which will be voted on later this month.

Rivera and the Falcons return to action Saturday, March 10 at 6 p.m. as they host Barton College in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament.
