Hornets complete sweep of Wildcats

The Chelsea High School baseball team completed a sweep of rival Shelby County in Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 action following a 12-2 victory March 8.

Matthew Graben led the Hornets at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a triple. Graben drove in two runs and scored two runs in the victory.

Keelan Gregg, who drove in a run and scored one a run, went 2-for-4 at the plate. Brody Holder, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Michael Graben went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run.

Davis Shoemaker, who drove in three runs and scored two runs, finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a homerun. Alex Dean, who drove in a run and scored a run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Eli Bashour went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Austin Dean finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Joey Mock went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in a run. Nathan Roddy scored two runs, while Michael Bell scored one run.

Ross Ham earned the win on the mound after giving up two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Mock gave up just two hits in one inning in relief.

Evan McNeal led Shelby County as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Jacob Pennington went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jacob Tidmore, who drove in a run and scored a run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Mike Pate went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run.

Cody Jones finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Ty Proctor scored a run.

McNeal took the loss after giving up eight earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Dakota Falkner allowed three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings in relief. Evan Nash struck out two batters and issued one walk without giving up a hit in 2/3 of an inning.
