Wildcats top Briarwood Christian in extra innings

The Shelby County High Scool softball team defeated Briarwood Christian 5-4 in extra innings in high school softball action March 8.

Trailing 4-2 in the fifth inning, the Wildcats plated the game-tying runs on a two-run single to right field by Kaitlyn Paschall, who drove in Courtney Shields and Brianna Buie.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jessica Carden drove in pinch runner Kristen King with a game-winning, walk-off single.

Jaselyn Harris had a triple in the victory. Paschall picked up her third win in the circle, improving her record to 3-0 this season.

Morgan Reed led Briarwood Christian at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Ashlyn Boyd finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Savannah Kolb went 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Reed took the loss after giving up five runs, including one earned run, on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and a walk in a complete game.
