Spain Park sweeps doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept a doubleheader against Bob Jones and Grissom in high school baseball action March 10.

The Jaguars edged Bob Jones 12-11.

Mikey White and Dustin Cowart each hit a grand slam in the sixth inning in the victory.

White led Spain Park at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a homerun. White drove in four runs and scored three runs in the victory.

Cowart, who drove in four runs and scored one run, went 2-for-5 at the plate with a homer. Colton Freeman finished 1-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs.

Josh Close, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Hunter Hall finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. Paul Angel, who drove in two runs and scored a run, went 1-for-4 at the plate. Brandon Bilek went 1-for-2 and scored two runs. Grant Veteto finished 1-for-1 and scored a run.

Cowart earned the win in relief after giving up three earned runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.

Spain Park defeated Grissom 12-5.

Veteto led the Jaguars at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two homers. Veteto drove in four runs and scored two runs in the victory.

White, who drove in three runs and scored a run, went 2-for-4 with a homer. Freeman, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-3.

Cowart went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and scored two runs. Josh Close, who drove in a run and scored two runs, went 1-for-4 at the plate. Hall finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. Will McDonald went 1-for-4 with a double. Brandon Marley finished 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run.

Josh Rich earned the win on the mound after giving up four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in four innings.
