Mr. William Luther “Luke” Smith of Geneva passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012. He was 73.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Hauser and Allen Marsh, pastor of Student Ministries officiating. Burial will follow in the Leddon Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. and continue until service time.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 787, Geneva, AL 36340.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 10, 1938 in Shelby County to the late Charlie Fount and Mittie Gertrude Wheeler Smith. When Luke first moved to Geneva County, he worked for a major fertilizer company in Geneva and Slocomb. For a number of years he owned and operated Geneva Stockyards and also served as president of the Geneva County Cattleman’s Association. For more than 30 years, Luke was owner of AFS Cars and Trucks and Luke’s Used Cars. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, a brother, Joe Franklin Smith, mother and father-in-law, W.O. and Mable Barnette Moore, as well as two special brothers-in-law and one special sister-in-law, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Alice Faye Moore Smith of Geneva; two sons, Mark Anthony Smith (Tasha) of Slocomb and Jason Matthew Smith (Kaci) of New Brockton; two daughters, Rhonda Faye Roberson (Gary) and Linda Lynn Hartline (Stephen), all of Geneva; two brothers, Charles Hubert Smith of Columbiana and James Lawrence Smith (Barbara) of Maxwell, Texas; two sisters: Annie Belle Austin of Pelham and Dorothy Harriett Sandlin of Waxahachie, Texas; sister-in-law, Ann Smith of Wilsonville; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of special nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
