Spain Park sweeps Thompson in doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Thompson in a high school baseball doubleheader March 16.

The Jaguars defeated Thompson 6-5 in the opener.

Mikey White led Spain Park at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a homer. White drove in one run and scored three runs in the victory.

Colton Freeman, who drove in three runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 with a triple. Josh Close went 1-for-2 and scored one run. Paul Angel finished 1-for-2 and scored one run.

Hunter Hall, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-1 at the plate. Will McDonald finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in two runs. Dustin Cowart finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Peyton Walsh scored one run.

Josh Rich earned the win on the mound after giving up three runs, including two earned runs, on seven hits with two strikeouts in six innings. Trey Hawker allowed two earned runs on two hits with a walk in one inning in relief.

Tyler Gamble led Thompson at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a homer. Gamble drove in three runs and scored one run.

Blake Grill finished 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Mel Harwell went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Dee Tolbert finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Garrett Walters finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Austin Carter, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Drew Avans scored two runs. Davis Cox drove in one run.

Aron McRee took the loss after giving up eight runs, including six earned runs, on eight hits with five strikeouts and a walk in three innings.

Jake Bywalski gave up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings in relief.

Spain Park defeated Thompson 6-5 in the nightcap.

White earned the win after striking out two batters and giving up just two hits in relief.

Freeman started on the mound and gave up four unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in two innings.

Max Goldsmith gave up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in three innings.

Colby Sherman led the Warriors at the plate as he went 3-for-3 and scored a run.

Harwell finished 2-for-4 and drove in one run. Tolbert went 1-for-4 and scored two runs. Grill finished 1-for-2 and drove in a run. Gamble finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Hunter Davenport, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-4 at the plate. Walters scored one run.

Austin Markham took the loss after giving up four runs, including two earned runs, on two hits with seven walks in 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Kenny Nabors started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
