Ward 3 Alabaster Councilman Adam Moseley during a March 19 meeting announced his resignation from the City Council to take a position on the city’s first school board.

Moseley, who was first elected to the council in 2000, said he has enjoyed serving Alabaster residents for the past several years.

“I’ve enjoyed representing the people of this district and this city, but we’ve got a big opportunity in front of us,” Moseley said. “I wanted to make sure we do the right things and get this school district set up right.”

Alabama law would prohibit Moseley from serving on both the City Council and the school board. After entering his name as a school board candidate in late 2011, Moseley said he planned to step down from his council seat if appointed to the school board.

Moseley will serve on the school board until June, when he will be eligible for reappointment to the board by the City Council. He will serve on the school board with Linda Church, Melanie Shores, John Myrick and Ty Quarles. The city is scheduled to have a swearing-in ceremony and reception for the school board at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 26 at the Alabaster Senior Center.

After Moseley’s council seat is declared vacant, the council will have 60 days to appoint his replacement. If the council does not appoint a new council member within 60 days, the decision will go to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley.
