Rebels fall to Edgewood Academy

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team fell to Edgewood Academy, the defending Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 2A champions, 7-5 in high school baseball action March 20.

Edgewood Academy scored two runs in the final two innings to defeat the Rebels, who dropped to 12-4 overall.

“It was a battle,” said Coosa Valley coach Bobby Hughes. “We didn’t finish in the end. I think it’s going to help us in the long run.”

Garrett McMillan led the Rebels at the plate as he finished with a triple and a double and drove in three runs.

Hunter Winslett added two hits and drove in one run. Steven Cryer, Allen Logan and Tyler Hickman finished with one hit each.

Jake Carter took the loss on the mound after giving up three runs, including two earned runs, on four hits with one strikeout and one walk in two innings.

Austin Tatum allowed two earned runs on four hits with a strikeout in two innings. Cody Wood gave up one earned run on two hits with a strikeout in two innings. Winslett allowed one earned run on two hits in one inning.
