The Shelby County Arts Council will offer adult painting classes in Alabaster beginning in April.

The SCAC has teamed with the county school system’s Adult Enrichment program to host “Expresso Yourself,” a monthly course.

The class will be hosted by Debbie Sullivan, an artist who teaches painting classes at senior centers in the county and workshops in the Birmingham area.

“She’s extremely talented, and just a wonderful teacher,” said Susan Dennis Gordon, SCAC’s director of arts and education.

Gordon said the class is part of the SCAC’s outreach program. The organization, which is based in Columbiana, offers similar classes in other areas of the county, including Chelsea.

“We want to help people get their feet wet,” she said. “Some may not be ready for a full-fledged class.”

Participants in the class will complete an acrylic painting of featured artwork in each evening class. Materials are provided for each class.

The class will be held the first Monday of each month beginning April 2 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center, 601 First St. S, Alabaster. The class requires a minimum of 10 students and is limited to 15 students. Cost is $35.
