Children’s rodeo comes to Harpersville

HARPERSVILLE — Harpersville will be taken over by cowboys and cowgirls the weekend of April 13.

More than 90 children from kindergarten to eighth grade from Alabama and Florida will be competing in bull riding, team roping, calf roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling and more, according to a press release.

Two youth rodeo associations will be coming to Harpersville. The Alabama Junior High School Rodeo Association for children in sixth, seventh and eighth grade and the Alabama Junior Rodeo Association for children in kindergarten to eighth grade.

Kevin Hodges, director of both participating rodeo associations and the owner of Rodeozone.com, said Lazy H Farm is hosting the event in Harpersville to bring attention to children’s rodeos.

“Out in Harpersville we have a number of contestants in the associations that have traveled all over the country,” Hodges said.

The Alabama Junior High School Rodeo Association will compete April 13 at 7 p.m. Harpersville is one stop of the statewide tour for the 2011-2012 rodeo season, according to the press release.

“These kids are battling for their top positions and awards for the state finals and for the National Junior High Rodeo Association Finals in Gallup, NM in June 2012,” Hodges wrote in the press release.

The Alabama Junior Rodeo Association will be competing on Saturday at 10 a.m. and on Sunday at 9 a.m. On Sunday Cowboy Church will be held at 8 a.m. at the arena.

Tickets are $5 at the gate for adults and free for children ages 6 and under.

Harpersville, Ala.
