Amaro, Thompson capture tennis titles

The Thompson High School girls’ tennis team captured the Shelby County girls’ tennis tournament championship March 29 at the Pelham Tennis Center.

The Warriors racked up a tournament-high 43 points, which edged second-place Briarwood Christian by four points.

Oak Mountain finished third in team standings with 31 points. The Eagles’ Jessica Amaro captured the No. 1 singles’ championship in the tournament.

Pelham, which hosted the tournament, finished fourth with 18 points. Indian Springs came in fifth with nine points. Chelsea finished sixth with four points, while Shelby County came in seventh with three points.

Westminster School at Oak Mountain, which didn’t record any points, finished eighth.

Jessica Amaro of Oak Mountain defeated Laura Harwell of Thompson in the No. 1 singles’ championship match. Erin Sutter of Thompson defeated Olivia Odom of Briarwood Christian in the No. 2 singles’ championship match.

Victoria Killingsworth of Thompson defeated Mary Catherine Touliatos of Oak Mountain in the No. 3 singles’ championship match. Lauren Bowers of Briarwood Christian defeated Maria Siow of Thompson in the No. 4 singles’ championship match.

Sellers Mulvaney of Briarwood Christian defeated Whitney Hamner of Pelham in the No. 5 singles’ championship match. Ashton Henderson of Briarwood Christian defeated Elizabeth Hartzog of Pelham in the No. 6 singles’ championship match.

Amaro and Samantha Fredrick of Oak Mountain defeated Hutter and Siow in the No. 1 doubles’ championship match. Harwell and Killingsworth defeated Odom and Bowers in the No. 2 doubles’ championship match.

Frannie Ware and Kateleigh Calloweay defeated Olivia Sorrell and Anna Conn of Thompson in the No. 3 doubles’ championship match.
