University of Montevallo junior Michael Shreves was recently named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading the Falcons to a win last week over Georgia College and State University.

Shreves won a pitchers’ duel with Georgia College’s Mike Guinane as Montevallo beat the Bobcats 2-1 in the first game of their three-game series.

Shreves pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out 10 and walking only one. The junior set down the side in order twice and struck out the side once. In the second, GC had runners on first and third with one out, but Shreves struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam. Shreves collected his second win of the season and had nearly 1/3 of his season total of strikeouts in the one game.

Shreves and the rest of the Falcons return to action Friday, March 30 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Columbus, Ga. to take on Columbus State University in a three-game series.
