VINCENT — The town of Vincent Park and Recreation Board will host a Vincent in the Park community event April 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the first outdoor festival event under Mayor Ray McAllister’s administration, said City Council member Bridgette Jordan Smith who is also a member of the Vincent Park and Recreation Board.

“The free event is a great time to come out and enjoy great entertainment and wonderful community fellowship,” Smith said.

Smith said she hopes to incorporate the Vincent High School choir and elementary student performances into the event.

“The springtime seems to be the best time of the year to have the event,” she said. “All the residents can come out and enjoy the park.”

Smith said the board is currently looking for food and arts and crafts vendors to participate. There are no application fees for vendors.

Smith expects the Vincent High School Band Boosters and the Athletic Booster Club to have funnel cakes, hot dogs and other festival fixings. Proceeds from the two organizations will go towards new uniforms for the band and football team.

“I’m excited and already claiming it’s going to be a success,” Smith said. “We need to do something fun in Vincent. The other towns have their festivals so we needed to do something for Vincent.”

Smith hopes to make Vincent in the Park an annual event.

“We’re hoping this event will pick up each year to become our own version of City Stages,” she said.
