Charles “Charlie” Emery Barrett

Charles “Charlie” Emery Barrett, age 90, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2012. He was born in Oneonta on June 8, 1921 to Ruby Argo and Ninus F. Barrett. Charlie was a faithful member of Third Presbyterian Church for 58 years.

He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of more than 71 years, Ruth Smith Barrett. He also was a wonderful and loving dad and papaw to his daughter, Charlotte Barrett Vines (Gerald Sr.); his son, David M. Barrett Sr. (Pattie); a grandson, Gerald Loel “Jerry” Vines Jr.; great-grandchildren, Allyson N. Vines Keene (Mikey), David M. “Buddy” Barrett Jr., Adrianna M. Barrett, Elizabeth N., Sarah L. and Bryan D. Frazier; three great-great granddaughters, Emalee “Emme” Kenne, who always had lots of fun with Papaw, Tanieya and Maleya Nelms; a special cousin, Doyle Argo of Dayton, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Argo; his father, Ninus F. Barrett; his sister, Ruby Pauline “Polly” Barrett Lake; and his youngest daughter, Shirley Barrett Maltz.

Charlie will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. His family would like to thank Dr. Robert Bryant and Dr. Harold Settle for their excellent care. Also, many thanks to Oasis Hospice for their loving care during his illness, especially Pam Whitten, for being there with us during Charlie’s final hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Third Presbyterian Church, Oasis Hospice, in Moody, or to your favorite charity.

Visitation was Monday, March 19, 2012, at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with graveside services following at Forest Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m. Rev. Richard C. Trucks officiated the service.
