Pelham High School junior Whitney Gillespie was recently named a Fastpitch Coaches Association/MaxPreps.com National Player of the Week after leading the Panthers to a trio of victories.

Gillpesie was named the South Region Player of the Week after tossing two shutouts, including a no-hitter against Dothan, in three Pelham victories in the past week.

Gillespie is currently 9-1 this season with a 0.66 earned run average in the circle. Gillespie has recorded 81 strikeouts this season with only eight walks.

Gillespie, who played at Kingwood Christian School last season, has helped the Panthers to a 20-3 start to the 2012 campaign.
