Bulldogs sweep Verbena in doubleheader

The Montevallo High School baseball team swept Verbena in a high school baseball doubleheader April 7.

The Bulldogs defeated Verbena 14-2 in the opener.

Chase Hamrick led Montevallo offensively as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate. Hamrick drove in one run and scored two runs in the victory.

Eric Smith, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple. Zack Sweat, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Trevor Chatham earned the win on the mound after giving up two unearned runs on one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

David Shirah struck out one batter and issued one walk in one inning in relief.

Montevallo defeated Verbena 12-2 in the nightcap.

Hamrick led the Bulldogs offensively as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Hamrick drove in three runs and scored two runs in the victory.

Shirah finished 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Taylor Burr went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored three runs.

Jonathan Pintaro earned the win on the mound after giving up two unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Burr allowed just one hit with three strikeouts in two innings in relief.
