Lions sweep Florence in doubleheader

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team swept Florence in a high school baseball doubleheader April 13.

The Lions defeated Florence 5-2 in the opener.

Tanner Cunningham led Briarwood Christian offensively as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Cunningham scored two runs in the victory.

Cole Pearson finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Pearson drove in one run and scored one run in the win.

Daniel Robert finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and scored one run. Ben Craft went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run. Ethan Simmons finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a double. Jake Bracewell, who drove in two runs, went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Carter Tyra also drove in one run. Matthew Furuto scored one run.

Will Brown earned the win on the mound after giving up two unearned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Bracewell allowed just one hit in one inning in relief.

Briarwood Christian defeated Florence 7-0 in the nightcap.

Tyra led the Lions at the plate ass he finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Tyra drove in one run in the victory.

Furuto, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 3-for-4 at the plate. Ethan Simmons, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple. Cole Pearson went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Craft finished 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run. Sam Morris went 1-for-1 at the plate. Cunningham finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and scored one run. Tanner Gann finished 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.

Robert scored one run in the win.

Simmons earned the win on the mound after giving up just two hits with six strikeouts and four walks in six scoreless innings.

Cunningham gave up one walk in one scoreless inning in relief.
