Alabaster

On April 12, 2012, at age 61, the Lord called home a very good man. Roger H. Prestridge of Alabaster is now at rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Roger was the rock of his family, a devoted husband to Judy for 37 years; a constant and committed father; and adoring son and brother.

He grew up in Huntsville, graduated from Jacksonville State University and moved to Birmingham when he was offered an accounting position with Stonewall Insurance Co., now Infinity Insurance Co’s. There he earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues, advancing from junior accountant to an officer in the company.

He and Judy became Alabaster residents in 1990. Since then, they have attended the First Baptist Church of Alabaster and have been a part of a particularly close-knit Sunday school class. Known as a perfectionist at work, Roger could still relax out on the lake in a bass boat, fishing with his buddies. An avid Crimson Tide fan, between September and January, he enjoyed following his team, winning or losing (mostly winning). He will be remembered for his generosity, and his unusual wit and dry sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Roger was preceded to Heaven by his father, Hubert Prestridge. Survivors include Roger’s wife, Judy; his children, Rowan Hudson (Chris)of Cleveland and John “Ty” Guthrie (ex Dana) of Gardendale; mother, Clealis Prestridge of Huntsville; and sister, Rebecca Cook (Dennis) of Huntsville. Roger was proud of his six grandchildren, Jesse, Sarah, Andrew, Joey, Christopher and Kaitlyn.

Visitation was 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road in Pelham. Celebration of Roger’s life was 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012 in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Mt. Lookout Cemetery near Collinsville, with friends and family welcomed to attend.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Brookwood Hospital, Gentiva Hospice, all of our friends and family for their loving support and Jim Gober and Rose DuPre for their heartfelt eulogies.
