Warriors sweep softball tripleheader

The Thompson High School softball team swept games against Springville, Sumiton Christian and Curry in high school softball action April 14.

The Warriors defeated Springville 7-2.

Rachel Rigney led Thompson offensively as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Rigney drove in one run and scored two runs in the victory.

Haley Crumpton finished 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Taylor Powell went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.

Rigney earned the win in the circle after giving up two runs, including one earned run, on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in a five-inning complete-game victory.

The Warriors defeated Sumiton Christian 2-0.

Ashleigh Short led Thompson offensively as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.

Powell, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate with a homer. Powell also earned the win in the circle after recording 11 strikeouts and only giving up five hits in a complete-game shutout.

Thompson defeated Curry 5-0.

Short led the Warriors offensively as she finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Jordan Swindle went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run. Sara Beth Watkins finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a triple and drove in two runs.

Rigney earned the win in the circle after giving up just three hits with eight strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.
