FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – A celebration in anticipation of Earth Day will be held at the University of Montevallo’s James Wylie Shepherd Observatory on April 19 from 4-9:30 p.m.

“Stars Fell on Montevallo Earthfest” is a community-wide event featuring live music by Them Natives and Love Bunny, free food, as well as tours of the observatory including the new solar generator, rainwater purification system and other “green” initiatives. Crafts such as jewelry making, spray-paint art and dream-catcher construction will be demonstrated, as will a solar oven, screen printing and a lacto-fermentation process. The observatory will be available for viewing the skies during the entire event.

Shuttles will take celebrants to the site, leaving at half-hour intervals from the Becoming (“hands”) statue on the University of Montevallo campus.
