FROM STAFF REPORTS

Jefferson State Community College recently announced a partnership with the Institute of Sustainability to further the college’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and preservation.

The Institute will help Jeff State implement sustainable business practices developed by government agencies and trade associations.

“We are excited to take a leadership role in improving college and business sustainability practices in the state of Alabama,” said Jeff State president Judy Merritt. “The certification process helps us identify opportunities for a more sustainable operation at each of the college’s four locations and educate our vendors and suppliers on improved operational measures that will help reduce their energy, water, pollution and carbon footprints.”

Jeff State officials will look to improve sustainability in areas such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, water efficiency, pollution prevention, sustainable procurement and transportation.
