Chargers win region title

The Cornerstone Christian School baseball team took two-out-of-three games in a series with Jackson Academy to claim an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A region championship April 16-17.

The Chargers defeated Jackson Academy 7-1 in the opener April 16.

Chase Payne led Cornerstone Christian offensively as he finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Payne drove in two runs in the victory.

Auston Wingard finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

Austin Davis earned the win on the mound after giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts in a complete game.

Cornerstone Christian fell to Jackson Academy 7-6 in the nightcap April 16. The Chargers faced a 7-0 deficit in the game in the fifth inning before a late comeback attempt was unsuccessful.

The Chargers wrapped up the region title with 15-5 victory April 17 over Jackson Academy.

Payne led Cornerstone Christian offensively with three hits, including a triple and a double.

Wingard finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple. Adrian Young added two hits, including a double. Dalton Lodge, Sterling Riether, Clayton Halbert and Hagan Joiner finished with one hit each.

Tim Warren, who had two hits, earned the win on the mound in a complete-game victory.
