Construction on the new wing at Pelham High School has resumed.

Williford Orman Construction LLC has taken over the project, Randy Reeves, Shelby County Schools facility coordinator, said during the April 19 board of education meeting.

The projected completion date is Aug. 9. Reeves said the Williford Orman is based in Pelham and has a vested interest in the community and completing the project before the new school year begins.

“They will do everything in their power to get us in the building by the start of the school year,” he said.

The original completion date for the nine-classroom wing was October 2011. The board voted to terminate its contract with the Columbus, Ga.-based D. Dean and Associates in November 2011 because of contract delays, Shelby County Schools Superintendent said previously.

The new wing, which is located on the southwest corner of the school, is partially built. It is intended to alleviate overcrowding in the school, which has an enrollment of about 1,800 students.
