Falcons drop non-conference series against Tusculum

Montevallo was led by Hill on the day as he went 5-for-6 at the plate with an RBI, a stolen base, a hit by pitch and two runs scored. Fulmer was 4-for-9 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Senior Heath Peterson was 2-for-6 with a pair of homeruns, five RBI, three walks, and two runs scored.

Montevallo used five pitchers in game one, including starter junior Michael Shreves. Shreves pitched six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. He allowed five hits and four runs including three earned.

Freshman Mason Morris picked up the win pitching 2/3 of an inning with no hits allowed. Senior Wes Rich, a Pelham High School graduate, closed out the game taking home a save after pitching one inning of no-hit ball.

In game two, it was sophomore Alex Guilford who got the start and went four innings with two strikeouts and a walk. He allowed five hits and four runs including two earned. Rich took home the loss as he allowed two runs off of two hits in the final inning including one earned.

Montevallo scored two quick runs in the first inning of game one as Peterson hit a two-run homerun in his first plate appearance against the nationally-ranked squad. Tusculum responded with three runs in the third, a single run in the fourth and a single run in the seventh to take a 5-2 lead.

In the eighth inning, the Falcons opened up with back-to-back-to-back singles and then senior Blaine Rosenberg hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to two.

After a ground ball out to move the runners to second and third, senior Kirk Waligora drew a walk to load the bases. Fulmer then hit a bases clearing double down the left field line to give the Falcons a 6-5 lead. Andrews ended the scoring with an RBI single to centerfield.

The tandem of junior Kameron Heiser and Rich shut down the Pioneers in the eighth and ninth to secure the Falcons 7-5 victory.

In game two, Montevallo fell behind early as Tusculum scored two runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Montevallo responded in the sixth as Peterson hit a three-run homer to cut the lead to just one run.

Montevallo took the lead in the seventh inning as Hill hit an RBI single to score senior Josh Headley and Hill then scored on a passed ball later in the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Montevallo added a run in the eighth as Headley hit a bases loaded single to score Fulmer.

The Pioneers scored a single run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to one and then tied the game on an RBI single up the middle in the ninth after a Montevallo error and then a walk-off double to win the game 7-6.
