Panthers finish third in section track and field meet

The Pelham High School girls’ track and field team finished third in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A section meet April 28 at Mountain Brook High School.

Caitland Smith led the Panthers as she won two individual events in the section meet.

Smith claimed the girls’ 100-meter dash title with her time of 12.08 seconds. Smith also won the girls’ 200-meter dash title with her time of 25.25 seconds.

Smith finished second in the 400-meter dash with her time of 57.34 seconds.

Mary Grace Strozier also won an individual title, claiming the girls’ 3,200-meter run with her time of 11:52.48.

Strozier finished second in the girls’ 1,600-meter run with her time of 5:23.07.

The Panthers’ 1,600-meter relay team finished third in the event with a time of 4:07.56. Pelham’s entry in the girls’ 3,200-meter relay team came in fourth with a time of 9:57.48.

The Spain Park girls’ track and field team finished fifth in the Class 6A section meet.

Simone Charley led the Jaguars as she captured the girls’ triple jump title with her leap of 40 feet, 4 inches. Charley finished second in the girls’ long jump event with her leap of 17 feet, 9.75 inches.

Jasmine Moore finished third in the girls’ shot put event with her toss of 39 feet. Moore also finished fourth in the girls’ discus event with her toss of 92 feet, 1 inch.

Jessica Bilek finished third in the girls’ 3,200 meter run with her time of 12:00.40.

Thompson finished sixth in the Class 6A section meet. Lacey Marcus finished third overall in the 100-meter hurdles event with her time of 15.58 seconds.

Oak Mountain came in seventh in team standings in the Class 6A section meet.

Emily Stevens led the Eagles as she captured the girls’ 800-meter run with her time of 2:20.73. Stevens finished third in the 400-meter dash with her time of 58.06 seconds.

Oak Mountain claimed the girls’ 3,200-meter relay title with a time of 9:44.65. The Eagles’ 1,600-meter relay team finished fourth in the event with a time of 4:07.93.
