Eagles split games in area tournament

The Calera High School softball team split a pair of games in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A, Area 8 tournament May 1.

The Eagles defeated Tarrant 11-1 in the tournament.

Shelby Clark led Calera offensively as she finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Clark drove in four runs in the victory.

Anna Seabury went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple. Skyler Laird and Jocelyn Davis each finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Somer Roberson and Samantha Smith each went 1-for-2 at the plate. Shelby Wright finished 1-for-1 at the plate and drove in one run in the win.

Kymber McGiboney and Emily Sanders also drove in one run in the victory.

Katie Eiland, who earned the win in the circle, finished with eight strikeouts in a five-inning complete-game victory.

Calera fell to Oak Grove 10-3 in the tournament.

Davis led the Eagles offensively as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Davis also drove in one run.

Roberson went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs. McGiboney went 1-for-2 at the plate, while Clark finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a pair of stolen bases.

Roberson, who took the loss in the circle, finished with two strikeouts in a complete game.
