Lyda announces candidacy for Hoover City Council

HOOVER — John Lyda, a member of the Hoover Library Board of Trustees, has announced his candidacy for the Hoover City Council.

The Hoover municipal election will be held Aug. 28.

Lyda, a 16-year Hoover resident, is operations manager of claims administration for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

“Fostering economic growth, ensuring fiscal responsibility and protecting our quality of life are areas that are of utmost importance to me and my candidacy,” Lyda said in a press release. “Since I was a child, I have dreamed of serving the public in an elected capacity, and there is no place I would rather fulfill that dream than here in Hoover, Alabama.”

Lyda has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in business administration from UAB. Lyda is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Hoover-Metro, a member of the Friends of Hoover and a past president of the Hats and Horns Societe, which is a philanthropic organization aimed at improving children’s lives.

He is a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church.

He and his wife, Beth, have two children: Anna Kate, 10, and Griffin, 7.
