The newly formed Alabaster Board of Education has launched its official website.

Board President Dr. Melanie Shores said during the board’s May 14 meeting that the site is hosted through the city of Alabaster’s website and can be accessed at Alabastercityschools.org. Shores said meeting dates, minutes, updates and contact information for the board members will be posted on the website.

The board also fielded questions from a handful of people who attended the meeting, including:

  • When the school system will hire a superintendent,
  • Whether the school system will have an after-school program,
  • The city’s separation date from the Shelby County School System,
  • Where special needs children will attend school.

Board president Dr. Melanie Shores and other board member said it would be difficult to give answers to the questions before a thorough examination of the schools’ finances is completed.

Shores said the board expects to receive financial information this summer, possibly by June 1, which will allow them to make more decisions.

“Every decision we participate in as a board will be child-centered,” board member Linda Church said.
