A Pelham man and a Hoover man were pronounced dead on May 30 after they were involved in a wreck near the entrance to Pelham’s Oak Forest subdivision on Shelby County 11.

The wreck happened at about 4:15 p.m. when a Mercedes car traveling northbound on Shelby County 11 clipped a Honda Odyssey minivan stopped in traffic, according to the Pelham Police Department.

The Mercedes then crossed the center line of Shelby County 11 and struck a Toyota Camry traveling southbound head-on. The wreck shut down Shelby County 11 for about an hour and 20 minutes while police and firefighters worked to clear the wreck.

The driver of the Mercedes, 59-year-old Hoover resident Rodney Anders, was transported by Lifesaver helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger in the Toyota Camry, 28-year-old Pelham resident Eduardo Domingues, also was airlifted to UAB Hospital, where he was also pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was transported by ambulance to Shelby Baptist Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Police said the driver of the Honda Odyssey was not injured in the wreck.

Pelham police Lt. David Rushton said the wreck is still being investigated by the department’s Traffic Operations Unit.
