MONTEVALLO – The Alabama Department of Transportation has approved $150,000 in funding for a project in Montevallo, as part of Alabama’s Safe Routes to School Program.

The funding will go to sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian signage at Montevallo Elementary School, said Rebecca Leigh White of ALDOT’s media and community relations bureau.

The SRTS Program encourages and enables children in grades kindergarten to eighth grade to safely walk and bicycle to school in their community, according to a press release from ALDOT.

Alabama’s SRTS program is supported by the Alabama Departments of Transportation, Education, and Public Health. For more information on Safe Routes to Schools, visit Adph.org/srts.
