ALABASTER – The Beneful Dream Dog Park dedication celebration will be July 12 at 11 a.m. in Alabaster’s Veterans Park.

“They have the fence up and artificial turf in the large dog arena,” said Frings during a June 18 City Council meeting. “They’re getting ready to install turf in the small dog area.”

Additionally, Frings said the library’s new meeting room addition will be completed by the end of the week. A ribbon cutting will be planned for a future date.

Frings also announced election qualification for the upcoming mayoral and city council position election Aug. 28. The qualifying period lasts from July 3-17, and interested candidates can contact the Alabaster city clerk.

In other business, the council:

-Voted unanimously to sign a contract proposal from Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. for engineering service for 2012 paving projects. The project will include streets in The Grove, Golden Meadows and Grande View, as well as Mangrove Drive, Bluegrass Drive, Pebble Lane, Industrial Park Lane and Arrow Drive. The engineering firm will perform advertising for the project, opening of bids, contact negotiation and issuance of Notice of Proceed on behalf of the City. The City will pay $18,000 for the total contract, according to City Councilman Rick Walters.

-Voted unanimously to approve a performance bond release, which sets a two-year bond on commercial court, a commercial subdivision off Shelby County 87. According to Frings, the subdivision’s roads have not been sealed in 10 years, and while the city will be responsible for the roads, the two-year performance bond holds the developer responsible for road conditions for the next two years.

-Voted unanimously to waive vendor fees for Celebrate America, which will be held at Veterans Park June 30.
