WILSONVILLE – The heart of downtown Wilsonville was blocked off as residents enjoyed the town’s 16th annual God and Country Celebration June 24.

“It gives a chance for the community to come together,” Wilsonville Mayor Rosemary Liveoak said. “We can fortify our faith in God and country. It’s reminiscent of old times to me.”

Local singers entertained from the town’s gazebo, and bounce houses were available for children. The event concluded with fireworks at 9 p.m.

“We want to use our local talent was best we can,” Liveoak said of the singers.

The Wilsonville City Council purchased the 600 sandwiches and extra food, and by an hour into the event, Liveoak said she had only about 50 sandwiches left. The Wilsonville Civitan Club served the food to the residents.

“We’re glad to see everybody, not only from our township but from the surrounding area,” Liveoak told the crowd.

The Wilsonville Beautification Board, Wilsonville United Methodist Church and the Civitan Club held information booths and donated giveaways to attendees.

“All of the churches and businesses have an opportunity to contribute,” Liveoak said. “It really ties the community together.”
