The Pelham Police Department arrested a 22-year-old Bessemer man on June 23 and charged him with several counts of stealing items from cars parked in the Stonehaven neighborhood off U.S. 31.

Officers arrested William Dylan Carroll and charged him with eight counts of unlawfully breaking and entering a vehicle, five counts of third-degree theft and two counts of second-degree theft.

The arrest came after a Pelham patrol officer discovered Carroll sitting inside a car parked in the neighborhood at about 4 a.m., said Lt. Pete Folmar.

“He was basically going through the car,” Folmar said.

After questioning Carroll, the officer was able to tie the suspect to several other car burglaries in the neighborhood, Folmar said.

According to police reports, Carroll has been charged with stealing an FM transmitter, a Verizon mobile phone, a black cloth jacket, a Magellan Crossover GPS, a canvas bag, three children’s books, a box of crayons, an RCA DVD player, children’s toys and two audio headphones.

Carroll also has been charged with stealing an iPod, 3D glasses, a Motorolla cell phone, an XM satellite radio, white sunglasses, two Tom Tom GPS devices, a Fujifilm camera and sunglasses.

The total value of the items was about $1,800 according to police reports.

As of June 28, Carroll was being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.
