Several win gold in Alabama Sports Festival events

Several athletes from Shelby County participated in the 2012 Alabama Sports Festival events June 21-23 across central Alabama, including 34 gold medal winners.

Four athletes competed in the 5K Challenge cross country event. Jason Redd of Helena won the gold medal in the 30-39 male division, Lynne DeShazo of Alabaster won the gold medal in the senior grand masters 60 and over female division and Danny DeShazo of Alabaster won the gold medal in the senior grand masters 60 and over male division.

Laney Gernenz of Alabaster won the silver medal in the 30-39 female division.

The Alabama Roadrunners basketball team, coached by Kenneth Lang and based in Helena, won the bronze medal in the 14-and-under female competitive division.

Zane Lovelady of Westover won the gold medal in the individual bass fishing competition. Hunter Shell and Haynes of Vincent won the gold medal in the team bass fishing event, while Austin Herring and Colby Yessick of Alabaster won the bronze medal in the competition.

Bryce Yeager of Birmingham won the gold medal in the BMX 15-year-old male expert division, while Noah Hall of Shelby finished first in the 13-year-old male intermediate division. Marley Cholewinski of Alabaster won the gold medal in the 6-year-old intermediate male division, while Caden Upton of Calera won the gold medal in the 8-year-old male intermediate division.

Christian Sikes of Calera won the silver medal in the 10-year-old male intermediate division.

Morgan J. Mullinax of Pelham won the bronze medal in the youth coed 20-and-under 100-129 bowling competition, while Ryan Kendall of Pelham won the bronze medal in the youth coed 20-and-under 181 and over division. Adam Smith of Montevallo won the gold medal in the adult male 21-and-over 194 and over division.

Hunter Davis of Pelham won the gold medal in the disc golf juniors/novice and recreation junior male 14-16 division. Dan McKinney of Montevallo finished sixth in the novice male open division.

Jody Mar of Alabaster won the silver medal in the advanced/advanced masters results disc golf competition. Daniel Creamer of Alabaster won the silver medal in the advanced/advanced masters amateur men advanced event.

Bryan Finley of Montevallo finished sixth in the amateur men intermediate disc golf competition. Adam Smith of Montevallo finished eighth in the event, while Trent Crwoson of Montevallo came in ninth in the competition.

The Alabama Starz gymnastics team, based in Birmingham, won the gold medal in the USAG Team Level 4 competition. The Starz also won the gold medal in the USAG Team Level 5 event.

Ellie Sachs of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 4 bars event. Sachs also won the bronze medal in the level 4 all around event and floor event and won the bronze medal in the level 4 vault competition.

Taylor Williamson of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 4 bars competition. Williamson also won the silver medal in the level 4 balance beam event.

Gracie Hollington of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 4 all around an level 4 bars events. Ellie Maxfield of Birmingham won the silver medal in the level 4 bars event and level 4 balance events, while placing third in the level 4 all around event.

Finley Walker of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 4 floor event and won the bronze medal in the level 4 bars event.

Camryn Smeraglia of Birmingham won the bronze medal in the level 4 vault competition.

Ally Hays of Birmingham won three gold medals, including level 5 all around, level 5 balance beam and level 5 bars. Hays also won the silver medal in the level 5 floor event and bronze medal in the level 5 vault event.

Kate Vanbeek of Birmingham won the silver medal in the level 5 all around, level 5 balance beam and level 5 vault competition. Reagan Verchot of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 5 floor event. Verchot also won the silver medal in the level 5 bars event.

Katie Shirey of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 5 vault competition.

Emma Grace Boyd of Birmingham won two gold medals, including the level 5 bars event and level 5 all around event. Boyd also won the silver medal in the level 5 balance beam, level 5 floor and level 5 floor events

Claire Lindsey of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level 5 floor event and level 5 vault event. Bailey Catherine Olive of Birmingham won the bronze medal in the level 5 vault competition.

Sofia Obregon of Birmingham won the bronze medal in three events, including level 5 all around, level 5 bars and level 5 floor event.

Kala Todd of Birmingham won the gold medal in the level balance beam competition and won the silver medal in the level 5 bars event.

Calyie Basseline of Birminghan won five gold medals, including level 6 all around, level 6 balance beam, level 6 bars, level 6 floor and level 6 vault events.

Selina Curren of Pelham won the silver medal in the .22 rifle silhouette 15-16 year old division, while winning the bronze medal in the 10-meter air rifle standing 15-16 year old precision event and 3 position 15-16 year old precision air rifle competition.
