Calera car wreck results in fatality, injuries

CALERA – A vehicle attempting to merge from the northbound Interstate 65 onramp near the exit 228 in Calera resulted in a fatal accident around 12:45 p.m. July 5.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is working the wreck. As of 3 p.m., troopers are on the scene of the crash at mile marker 229. ALDOT is diverting traffic, and northbound lanes are closed, according to a release from ADPS.

Additionally, the release stated commercial vehicles were involved.

According to Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley, the wreck caused one adult fatality. Additionally, one adult was airlifted by Lifesaver and two others were transported by ambulance.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is currently clearing the wreck from the interstate.

“This has happened in a troublesome spot again,” Lemley said. “We continuously seem to have a problem in this area with wrecks.”

According to the ADPS, troopers will provide more information at a later time.
