Friends and family members are remembering 20-year-old Hope Christian School alumna Dalta Danielle Garrett after she was killed in a wreck in Macon County on July 3.

The four-vehicle wreck happened near Tuskegee at about 3:30 p.m. near the 35 mile marker on Interstate 85 between Auburn and Montgomery, according to a release from the Alabama State Troopers.

According to state troopers, Garrett’s 2009 Toyota Corolla crossed the median of the interstate and collided with two other vehicles. Garrett’s parents, who live in Pelham, said Garrett’s car crossed the median after she swerved to miss a bicycle in the road.

Springfield, La., resident Ryan Williams, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, received minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Garrett was a 2010 graduate of Hope Christian School, was president of the state 4-H Council and was an industrial engineering major at Auburn University.

She was a scholarship U.S. Air Force ROTC cadet, and had just finished field training while graduating in the top 20 percent of her class.

She planned to become an officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Her family members described her as “a young woman with beauty and brawn,” and someone who “always carried herself with strength and dignity.”

While growing up, she competed in many high-level gymnastics competitions, won 96 gymnastics medals and was part of the Level 6 state championship gymnastic team.

“The most important thing in Garrett’s life was her relationship with Jesus Christ,” read her obituary. “She showed His love to friends and family with little kindnesses every day.”

Dalta Garrett is survived by her parents, Vivian and Bill, and her four sisters, Joan, Ruth, Deborah and Sabrina.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 8 from 3-6 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham.

The funeral service will be Monday, July 9 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pelham.
