For years, Indian Springs villagers have been fortunate to receive dental care without necessarily driving very far.

Several weeks ago, many villagers were surprised to see a large “We Are Moving” sign in front of one of their Indian Springs dentist’s office.

Dr. James T. “Ted” Melton opened his general and cosmetic dentistry office 15 years ago. Since then he has treated hundreds of Indian Springs families. Dr. Melton is the only dentist many of the village’s young adults, teenagers and children have ever seen.

Melton moved to Indian Springs in 1998 with his wife, Betsy, and their three young sons: Trey, Alex and Carson. They built their home here, and their sons attended Oak Mountain schools.

“Indian Springs is our home,” said Dr. Melton. “Yes, we are relocating our dental practice the first week of July, but we are not moving it very far.”

In fact, the new office is only three miles away.

The address for his newly updated office is 2006 Old Montgomery Highway. It is located across from Alabama Rentals behind the old 84 Lumber building (on the back road to the Galleria.)

There is plenty of parking at Melton’s new office. An Americans with Disabilities Act accessible entrance is around the back of the building on the lower level.

Melton is a native of Alabama. He graduated magna cum laude from Samford University with a bachelor’s of science degree in biology in 1978. Then, he attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, receiving his doctor of dental medicine in 1982.

Melton practiced dentistry in the Birmingham area since graduation, and has lived and practiced in Indian Springs Village since 1998. His interests outside the office include golf, fishing, Atlanta Braves baseball and table tennis.

“We are excited about the move, the updated facility, and that we will be able to offer expanded dental services in this new location,” Melton added. “Our phone number, 987- 7017, remains the same, and my staff and I will continue to provide the same quality care that we provided in the old location.”
