Jane Fowler Carter, age 95, of Columbiana, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Columbiana United Methodist Church with Rev. Lloyd Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Columbiana City Cemetery. Visitation is prior to the service from 10:15-11 a.m. in the church sanctuary.

Mrs. Carter was the daughter of Luther Jerome Fowler and Elsie Murphree Fowler and a graduate of Alabama College. She was a lifelong member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including music director, pianist and devoted choir member. She was named by The Birmingham News as one of the “Gracious Ladies of Alabama” in 1952.

Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her husband William Rux Carter, founder of Rux Carter Insurance, and her daughter Elsie Carolyn Carter. She is survived by her three daughters, Judy Roberts (Sam), Nena Fowler (Don) and Kathy Carter; grandchildren, Kimberly Ross (David), Benton Roberts (Emily), Rux Bentley (Amanda), Casey Bentley (Danette) and Amy Bentley; great grandchildren, Jacob and Abby Ross, Jackson Roberts, Madeline and McKlane Bentley and Addison and Braden Bentley; and many close nieces and nephews.
