The Alabaster City Council during an upcoming work session could begin discussing a plan to implement several city facility and road improvements, according to city officials.

Alabaster City Administrator George Henry recently compiled a list of potential projects after City Council members previously expressed interest in possibly funding them in the future.

The list includes upgrades to several Alabaster recreational facilities, city buildings and proposed road improvements.

Possible recreational projects on the list include lighting and upgrading the batting cages at Veterans Park, a possible kid-friendly splash pad, resurfacing the Warrior Park batting cage, building a two-court outdoor basketball court, new tennis courts and installing lights on the city’s soccer fields.

Potential facility upgrades include remodeling the current City Hall to house the Alabaster Police Department after the new City Hall is constructed, police department upgrades and purchasing new fire department and public works department equipment.

The city also is considering installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Shelby County 80 and Alabama 119, working with the Alabama Department of Transportation to widen Alabama 119 from the Publix shopping center to its intersection with Shelby County 80, improving the roads leading to the new City Hall building and building a road leading into the proposed “city center” property north off Alabama 119.
